The rules both of American politics and of Hot Stove League speculation make it quite clear that you need not give that any credence at all, especially since, at this point, it does not really appear as though anyone will be on the 2012 ticket! Furthermore, Obama has played Donald Trump like a fifty dollar violin, with the result that he is now -- to change metaphors -- toast. Tim Pawlenty, anyone?
